For most people, our day starts with our alarm jerking us out of sleep. Our body chugs along quietly and consistently for a number of hours until suddenly, we are thrown into consciousness.
We are creatures of habit. That's nothing new. We stick to a schedule most of the time.
But habits and patterns can lead to monotony. And monotony can lead to a lack of innovation and even boredom.
Sometimes we need an alarm to break us out of our sleep and throw us back into consciousness. What's your alarm?

You know patterns are not bad
You know patterns are not bad - in fact most smart people analyze their patterns, improve efficiency and perfect the patterns.
If you engage in creative tasks, you are constantly throwing yourself at innovation. Blogging is great at this and so is making music. I think that if your patterns are productive and positive then it is OK to be in a routine.
You spend your time blogging here and sharing your ideas, Tim. Most people go home, turn on the TV and do nothing else. I do not think patterns are bad if they are challenging you to better yourself.
Great point man. I suppose
Great point man. I suppose it's the habit/pattern itself rather than the action of having a habit/pattern that can be bad.
I totally agree with you about patterns challenging yourself. Having a habit of working out everyday for a set amount of time to keep yourself healthy is a good pattern to have.
Thanks for keeping me on my toes :)

Hey, this post was written on my birthday (sorry, minor trivia fact!).
Great points Tim and Adam. Monotony is good if we learn and improve on it; otherwise it's just monotony leading to boredom leading to creative stifling.
The key (as you say) is learning. Which is true of everything, I guess.
Cheers!
