The war between people who post clips from TV shows/movies on YouTube and the media companies who control those TV shows/movies is ongoing as always. I'm assuming some media mogul somewhere decided that the scene from Family Guy with the flailing arms guy cannot be on YouTube. No argument there...it's clear copyright infringement.
Enter Hulu. It's been around for awhile but I've never really used it. The site is NBC and News. Corps solution to providing legal TV/video content online. And frankly, they're doing a pretty good job. I didn't find the exact Family Guy clip I was looking for but in the search results, I discovered another gem (the Kool Aid man). A great Family Guy moment hands down, I wanted to share the joy with others. I click the embed link and boom!:
The share feature sports a handy handy tool that lets you select which portion of the video you wish to share. I don't have to show my friends the entire clip Hulu has posted - I can just show the Kool Aid man breaking the wall into the courtroom. Nice!
In the past, giant media companies haven't often really understood consumers and interacting with new media. Hulu is definitely a step toward understanding.
So friends, I leave you with the Hulu clip I created:
