Our kids will grow up with the ability to stream hundreds of thousands of movies and TV shows instantly in their living room.
Our kids will grow up with the ability to hear a song in the theater before Jim Gaffigan comes on stage, open up the Shazam app on their iPhone, find out what song is playing, and instantly download the song on their phone.
Our kids will grow up in a world where meeting a person who doesn't have a cell phone is totally weird.
Our kids will grow up with access to all the information of the world at their fingertips - literally.
Our kids will grow up paying all their bills online and buying stamps only for those rare instances where they have to send a paper check - in the mail.
It's mind blowing, really.
What excites you most for our kids as they grow up?

Hovercrafts. Since I'm a tech
Hovercrafts. Since I'm a tech geek at heart, the advancement of technology is very exciting to me. Not only fun stuff like televisions, phones, etc. but also in other areas like medical technology.
But I'm mainly hoping for hovercrafts.
Ha, to think hovercrafts
Ha, to think hovercrafts didn't even cross my mind! I think it would be awesome if hovercrafts became mainstream during our kids' lifetimes. Not sure how far along we are with that, but would definitely be just plain awesome.
My kid is already growing up
My kid is already growing up in this world. The crazy thing is imagining what they'll have in 5, 10, 20 years.
Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Back to the Future II:

That's the crazy part - when
That's the crazy part - when our kids are how old we are now. Imagine that! YouTube wasn't around 6 years ago. Flip video cameras and Netflix weren't around 5 years ago. Who knows what will be around 5 or 6 years from now!
I love Back to the Future :)
I don't know if this excites
I don't know if this excites me or scares the hell out of me. Technology is great, but there's something to be said for the good ol' days.
The ironic part is that was
The ironic part is that was my intent of writing this post, to suggest there's something still there about the old days! But the fact that I used the word excite instead must mean I'm subliminally enjoying the possibilites of future tech.
Definitely agree with you though - there's a point where it's too much.
What excites me is that,
What excites me is that, although he is growing up in the midst of this time, my son appreciates stillness and books. He watches the moon grow and shrink through the month, rides his bike, and--at the age of almost-five--sees all this technology as a means with which to connect with people he loves. (And he does all this while being a pretty typical kid.)Thanks for reminding me of this, Tim. I'm glad you're spending more time with this always thought-provoking blog.
I think that kind of balance
I think that kind of balance is great, and truly necessary. No matter how connected we get, there's something to be said for a good old campfire on a beautiful summer night out in the middle of the woods.
Thanks for reading Harry! It's folks like yourself that motivate me even more to continue writing here.
